Choose a Provider That Can Support Your Shipment Decision

Choose an inspection company for Amazon FBA sellers by checking whether it can visit your supplier's factory, follow your specifications, verify FBA packaging and barcodes, and deliver a report before your shipment decision. The report should show which goods were checked, what failed, and what needs correction before dispatch.

Ask shortlisted providers for a written scope, a redacted sample report, and an itemized quote based on the same order details. A low daily rate tells you little if barcode checks, travel, reporting, or follow-up are excluded. This guide focuses on selecting the provider; the detailed FBA checklists linked below cover what to inspect.

7 Criteria for Choosing an Amazon FBA Inspection Company

Send every provider an identical brief: factory address, specifications, quantities by SKU (the reference identifying each product or variant), readiness date, and requested checks. Compare written answers against the seven criteria below. Confirm availability at the actual factory, even if the company advertises coverage in that country.

Selection criterionEvidence to request
IndependenceWho selects the samples and receives the report? How are supplier pressure and conflicts of interest handled?
Factory access and coverageNamed site, available date, travel arrangements, and whether the visit is subcontracted.
Relevant product experienceA redacted report for a comparable product and the tools needed for your checks.
Custom inspection briefWritten confirmation that your sample, specifications, packaging, and label files are the references.
Sampling and defectsLot definition, sample sizes, SKU coverage, defect classes, and acceptance limits.
Reporting and follow-upSample report, delivery deadline, urgent escalation, clarification, and reinspection process.
Scope limitsChecks excluded, tests not feasible on site, and what happens if goods are not ready.

Compare the Full Inspection Quote, Not Only the Daily Rate

Ask what the quote includes before deciding which company is cheaper. Confirm inspector days, travel, equipment, reporting, applicable taxes, and any charges for additional SKUs or time-consuming tests. Get the conditions for postponement, cancellation, an unready lot, and reinspection in writing.

For example, two quotes for a multi-SKU order may cover different work: one checks only a pooled sample, while another specifies samples and barcode verification by variant. Ask both providers to explain SKU coverage and separate function-test quantities before comparing totals. Neither a higher price nor a longer checklist proves better work without a clear method.

Confirm Product Quality and FBA Preparation Are Both Included

A visual product check alone may miss a wrong barcode, mixed variants, or a carton label that does not match its contents. Ask the provider to separate product checks from unit-packaging, identification, and carton checks in its proposal, so you can see exactly what is included.

Amazon's public guidance covers scannable product identification, secure packaging, and product-specific preparation. Give the inspector your current approved label files and SKU mapping rather than asking it to guess the correct barcode route. Confirm whether Amazon barcodes such as FNSKU or eligible manufacturer barcodes apply to your inventory.

Amazon's 2026 barcode update distinguishes eligible brand representatives from resellers. Confirm your eligibility in Seller Central: an existing UPC or EAN does not by itself prove that a manufacturer barcode is acceptable.

Product checks should record measurements against your agreed specifications, alongside packaging and label checks.
  • Product: SKU and variant identity, quantity, workmanship, dimensions, accessories, and agreed function tests.
  • Sellable unit: packaging, bundle contents, required labels, barcode data, placement, and scan results.
  • Shipping carton: contents, box identification, packing-list match, weight, dimensions, protection, and visible condition.

Request a Sample Report Before Booking

A report should let you trace a conclusion back to the inspected lot and observed findings. Ask for a redacted report rather than a marketing brochure. You should be able to identify the order, inspected quantities, reference documents, tests performed, and any checks omitted or blocked by factory conditions.

Clear close-ups help you locate a reported defect. The report should also identify the affected SKU and explain the finding.
  • Photos show the product and affected SKU, with close-ups that explain each recorded defect.
  • Measurements and test results are compared with your specified tolerances or acceptance rules.
  • Barcode evidence records scanned values, tested quantities by SKU, and matching against your label file. A label photo alone does not prove scannability.
  • Packaging and carton findings distinguish product problems from shipment-preparation problems.
  • The summary explains failures, limitations, and open questions rather than offering an unexplained pass stamp.

Ask who will answer report questions and when the final report will arrive. A useful report delivered after loading may be too late to support your decision.

Agree on Sampling, Defects, and Function Tests

Ask how samples are selected from the available finished lot and how the plan covers different SKUs, sizes, or colors. AQL sampling can structure batch acceptance, but it is not a check of every unit and does not guarantee a defect-free order. Define critical, major, and minor defects using examples relevant to your product.

Function tests need their own instructions, equipment, duration, and tested quantities. Confirm what the inspector can safely perform at the factory and what must be arranged separately. An AQL pass does not override a failed specification, an unresolved serious defect, or a wrong label; the buyer still makes the shipment-release decision.

Red Flags When Choosing an FBA Inspection Company

Pause the booking if a provider cannot explain how it will verify your order. A generic checklist can be a starting point, but it should not replace your specifications, agreed tests, or current label files. Resolve these warning signs before the visit:

  • Promises that the inspection guarantees Amazon acceptance, sales, positive reviews, or complete compliance.
  • Supplier photos presented as a substitute for an agreed on-site inspection.
  • No request for specifications, SKU mapping, packaging instructions, or label files.
  • Unclear inspector independence, factory access, sampling method, or reporting deadline.
  • Barcode checks promised without confirming scanning equipment or how results are recorded.

Inspection provides evidence within an agreed scope. It does not guarantee Amazon receiving approval, cover every hidden defect, or replace independently arranged compliance assessment and any required accredited testing.

Book Before Shipment and Prepare the Inspection Brief

For a finished FBA order, a pre-shipment inspection is usually the relevant checkpoint. Agree with the provider how much of the lot must be finished and packed for representative sampling, then confirm readiness with the factory. Allow time to review the report, correct problems, and reinspect before loading. If the contract allows it, align inspection with the final payment milestone.

Use earlier checks when the risk requires them: a factory audit for supplier capability before commitment, an initial production check for materials and first pieces, or a during production inspection for recurring problems while manufacturing continues. Loading supervision serves a different purpose: checking the shipment and loading conditions on dispatch day.

  • Send the purchase order, SKU quantities, specifications and tolerances, approved sample details, and packing list.
  • Include packaging artwork, current label files, barcode-to-SKU mapping, and shipment or box-content details.
  • Confirm defect examples, acceptance rules, function-test instructions, factory contact, and target dispatch date.

Confirm What Happens if the Inspection Fails

Before hiring the company, ask how serious findings are escalated and how reinspection is booked. If problems are found, review affected SKUs, defect severity, photos, and test results before deciding. Request a documented correction from the supplier, set a verification deadline, and arrange another check when the remaining risk justifies it. Supplier assurances alone do not prove the lot has been corrected.

FAQ

FAQ: Choosing an Amazon FBA Inspection Company

01

How do I choose an inspection company for Amazon FBA?

+

Compare factory availability, independence, product experience, FBA scope, sampling, sample reports, and itemized fees. Obtain written confirmation that the visit follows your specifications, approved sample, packaging instructions, and label files.

02

How much does an Amazon FBA inspection cost?

+

Request a quote for your factory location, product, SKU count, order quantity, and tests. Compare inspector days, travel, equipment, reporting, applicable taxes, and reinspection conditions. A daily rate alone does not show the full cost or scope.

03

Can an inspector check FNSKU labels and barcode scans?

+

Yes, when agreed in the scope and the appropriate equipment is available. Supply current label files and SKU mapping. Ask the report to record scanned values, readability, placement, and matching to the correct sellable units; confirm separately which barcode type your inventory requires.

04

Can an inspection guarantee Amazon will accept the shipment?

+

No. Inspection checks the goods against agreed references and reports observed findings and limits. Amazon receiving decisions and the seller's current marketplace, category, and account requirements remain outside that guarantee.

05

Should I inspect before paying the final balance?

+

Where your contract permits, schedule inspection before the payment or shipment milestone you want the report to inform. Confirm factory readiness and leave time for corrections. The report supplies evidence; payment rights and obligations depend on your agreement.

06

What if my supplier is outside China?

+

Confirm coverage at the actual factory rather than relying on a country list. Asia Product Inspections supports six sourcing countries: China, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and the Philippines. Share the exact site and date to confirm availability.
